Boyle and Petyt Primary School, Beamsley, praised by Ofsted
5:10pm Friday 27th January 2012
Boyle and Petyt Primary School at Beamsley provides a good education for its pupils, with outstanding outcomes.
That is the conclusion of Ofsted inspectors who visited the 64-pupil school in November.
Lead inspector David Shearsmith said the school made outstanding efforts to ensure all pupils had equal opportunities for success and its procedures to safeguard pupils were excellent.
“Pupils are very keen to learn,” he said. “They relate well to each other … and their behaviour is outstanding. They enjoy school a great deal and show excellent care and consideration for others.”
He also praised the school’s approach to personal development and its wide range of cultural experiences.
“In an exceptionally welcoming ethos, pupils receive outstanding care, guidance and support,” added Mr Shearsmith.
To improve, the inspectors said progress in writing needed to be accelerated, with pupils being given more opportunities to practise their writing skills and evaluate their own work.
Headteacher Imogen Addy said: “We were pleased to receive a report that reflected well the achievements of the school. The lead inspector really knew his stuff and was able to offer sound advice on how we can raise standards even further.
“He recognised that we have a fantastic team of staff, governors, parents and pupils who provide a supportive community in which children can flourish.”
